Concertgebouw  (Amsterdam)
The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam is one of the most famous concert halls in the world and is known for its wonderful acoustics. The building, dating from 1888, is the centre for classical music in The Netherlands. Approximately 900 concerts take place every year, which are attended by nearly 810.000 visitors in all.
The department of Education of The Concertgebouw organises projects for pupils from primary and secondary schools. Listening is of course an important part in this educational programme, and listening activities become much more appealing when students are actively involved in projects. They play and sing themselves, they invent musical programmes and then also perform them. This approach has allowed over 30.000 pupils to become familiar with classical music, world music and jazz.
In addition to projects such as these the department of education develops courses, activities involving singing and playing for adults as well as workshops for very young children or the whole family. back
